Livestream – PWA Gran Canaria 2024 Windsurf World Cup

It’s that time of year again when the crème del a crème of the windsurfing world gather at Pozo Izquierdo in Gran Canaria for the Windsurf World Cup. The this years Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup takes place between 29th June until 7th July and will see two discpiplines, wave and Slalom X. 

What happened until now at the 2024 PWA Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup?

Four days are over at the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup. On day 3 Sarah-Quita Offringa and Marino Gil were crowned the Queen & King of Pozo. Pozo Izquierdo went fully nuclear with winds well in excess of 40 knots, which led to some stunning action and a triple forward loop attempt by Philip Köster. Liam Dunkerbeck won the youth U21 boys competition on day 4. Ben Proffitt won the masters 45+ category on day 4.

July 6 was the 8th day of the event (penultimate event day) and it’s the third day with Slalom X action. The wind was stronger compared to the other two days with slalom action. And the water surface was extremely choppy. The riders compared the feeling on the  windsurfing equipment with riding a Moto Cross.

The PWA ran 3 races in the ladies and 3 in the mens category. Sarah-Quita Offringa, Jenna Gibson and Justine Lemeteyer won a race each. Pierre Mortefon, Jordy Vonk won one race and Pierre Mortefon won two races.

Sarah-Quita Offringa is in a clear lead and is a bout to win in the Slalom X women’s category (10 eliminations with 2 discards). Jenna Gibson is in second and Marion Mortefon in third.
Pierre Mortefon is still the current leader (after 9 eliminations with two discards) in the men’s category ahead of Maciek Rutkowski and Matteo Iachino. Pierre has a clear lead and the Frenchman is very close to win the event title.

It’s the final day – day 9 – an Slalom X isON! As planned the last men’s and women’s Slalom X eliminations of the event were held around 11am. Congratulations to Sarah-Quita Offringa and Pierre Mortefon winning the first Slalom X event in history of windsurfing.

5th Benoit Merceur (FRA | Starboard / Severne Sails)
6th Ingmar Daldorf (NED | Tabou / GA Sails)
